nowledge is the new money: you have to keep learning every day. With this impacting phrase Sergio Parra titled his inspiring dissertation in Yorokobu on why, thanks to technology, we need to keep monetising less and learning more.
In line with this approach, and in counterpoint to the apocalyptic vision that many have of the digital age, we find people with a flexible mindset that lets them adapt to the accelerated changes of the new times. How? With a positive attitude based on constant learning.
These are professionals who work and think in a network. They are agile, creative, innovative, social and sociable. They ask questions and constantly rethink their knowledge, to then spread their conclusions and compare them, collaborating with anyone from anywhere, because they know how to use the new technologies to their advantage.
They bring value to organisations because their free spirit allows them to adapt to any context without being afraid of failing, with a will to excel, much like your attitude when you play a game. Their professional and personal success is directly related to this attitude.
To define this mindset, John Movarec, the founder of Education Futures LLC, coined the neologism knowmad, a concept based on the terms know and mad, from nomadic. which as he explains in his book Knowmad Society, has its raison d’etre in innovation and flexibility, in win-win relationships between organisations and businesses, in constant learning and in a proactive and constructive attitude towards life and work.
To define this mindset, John Moravec, the founder of Education Futures LLC, coined the portmanteau knowmad, a concept based on the terms know and mad, from nomadic, which as he explains in his book Knowmad Society has its raison d’etre in innovation and flexibility, in win-win relationships between organisations and businesses, in constant learning and in a proactive and constructive attitude towards life and work.
Journalist Raquel Roca recently published Knowmads. The workers of the future (Knowmads. Los trabajadores del futuro—Lid Editorial) in Spain, staking on a resetting of minds to become knowmads. Roca emphasises that “in addition to our own employability, knowmadism becomes a philosophy of life that makes you happier. Why? Because amongst other things, you know you are ready for the unknown, surfing on instability without sinking, and because it unveils the most social part that we have within, generating connections with others.”
