Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Facebook are the five leading companies in the world of technology. They have all opted for different business models and main revenue streams.
Statista has produced an infograph which summarises the total revenue of these five companies in 2017 and shows which is their main line of business, how they obtain most of their revenue and what percentage they represent over the total.
The most shocking case is that of Facebook: 98% of its revenue comes from advertising. For Google, advertising is also its main line of business, although in the search engine’s case, ads account for 86% of their total revenue.
In Apple’s case, it’s the sale of technological devices, the iPhone among them. Hardware accounts for 81% of the company’s revenue. In the case of Amazon, retail accounts for 82% of their revenue, while for Microsoft, 62% of their total revenue comes from software.
