The Barcelona-El Prat airport exceeded three million passengers last February, according to the latest figures provided by AENA published by the Barcelona City Council. With a total of 3,034,097 passengers, it is the first time that the airport in the Catalan capital is above three million passengers in a month of February.
Last January this airport also managed to surpass for the first time the three million passengers in the first month of the year.

The annual figures for the Barcelona-El Prat airport also show a clear upward trend. In 2017, the number of passengers stood above 47.2 million, slightly more than 3 million above the previous year.
Two decades ago, in 1999, the Barcelona-El Prat airport accumulated 1.74 million passengers. In 2001 it stood for the first time above 20 million, and reached 30 million in the year 2006. After a setback in 2008 and 2009, the main Catalan airport recovered the path of growth and stood in 2016 above of 44 million.
